Throwback Thursday-MTV Movie Awards 2001

So with my post this week in regards to the MTV Movie Awards, it made me realize how much I used to love them.  When I was the one buying tickets to watch all the movies that were the main focus of the show. My favorite actors and actresses were all over the place. Unlike then, now I have to force myself to try and stay relevant by watching these Hunger Games movies, which if I am honest, still stuck on chapter 5 of Book 1.  Since 2010.  So I decided to pick the year 2001, the year I graduated college...when my weekends were filled with teeny-bopper music and movies.  And man, did it bring back some memories...some good...some not so good.

The Bare Mid-Drift:
Left to Right: Cameron Diaz, Julia Stiles, Shannon Elizabeth and Alyson Hannigan
I am not sorry this fad went away.  I remember all my t-shirts all fell short of my pants or skirt.  And it was okay.  You didn't call a baby tee and baby tee...it was just a shirt.  This fad made my legs look even longer than they already are.  And when in your early twenties, not always a good thing.

Anna Faris was just breaking onto the scene, as a brunette:

And Christina was well...Dirty?:

Her outfit may have been horrendous, but you gotta admit that tune is still pretty catchy.  And she performed on stage that night singing 'Lady Marmalade with Mya, Lil Kim and Pink...whose hair was bright pink at the time.

However there were a sad few things I remembered while searching Google images.  That was the year 'The Fast and Furious' came out.  We hardly knew Vin Diesel and Paul Walker was just the hot blond guy from 'Varsity Blues' and 'She's All That'.  And here it is 14 years later, #1 movie in the country for the 7th movie in the series.  But the saddest thing was Aaliyah walked the red carpet for 'Romeo Must Die.'  And if memory serves me correctly, she wasn't alive much longer after this awards show. I am pretty sure she would of been a huge huge star, has she not died in the plane crash.

This was a fun little trip down memory lane.  All these people in this post were some huge at that time.  Some are still around..some not so much.  Mya? Shannon Elizabeth?  Anna Faris's brown hair?   Haha...anyways want me to critique fashion from another time, event, era...let me know!

When your DOG wears MORE CLOTHES than YOU...Time to Check your Fashion Choices

I may be out of the norm here, but when I plan to get off the plane, I make sure I have everything.

  •  Luggage-CHECK
  •  Cell Phone-CHECK
  •  Pants-CHECK

Seems logical right?  Well I guess no one ever said that Lady Gaga was logical.  I mean she did wear a coat of Kermit the Frogs once.  But still, put some pants on!!!

This photo was taken at LAX (for those of you who don't know-the airport in Los Angeles, CA.)  And while yes, it has been warm, we are in no way involved in a heatwave that would encourage anyone to remove their pants.  Heck the dog is even wearing a coat (and more clothes than Gaga) in what is usually a cold atmosphere...an airplane.

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

Well if you ever read this blog, you will know I am not a fan of the sans-pants wardrobe, made famous by Christina Aguilera on the Voice.  So Step #1, don't copy the fashion trend of Christina, because you are not going to get any points from me. Step #2, PUT ON PANTS!!!

I would start by saying Lady Gaga, BURN all of your tops so you don't have the option to just wear them. However I am afraid of what you would come up with then.  So please keep your bottomless days to your home and away from the poor guy in a suit trying really hard to get out of the shot.

Bonus Points: Your puppy is very cute!!!

ALERT: Missing Pants found...WITHOUT the owner in them

Do not be alarmed...well maybe a little bit.  Rihanna did not really lose her pants, I guess she just chose to go without them.  But I guess at this point we are lucky she put anything on?  And here is another celebrity (see previous examples of Christina Aguilera who was seen on 'The Voice' sans bottoms) who have believe underwear make acceptable outerwear.

And no she isn't on the way to the beach and this is just a fancy cover up. She thought her scallop-edges black underwear and sheer dress would be enough.  Even we don't need to be Superman with x-ray vision to know this isn't what should be worn in public. And does anyone think Crazy Gypsy Lady too? Its the hair right? Please don't cast a curse on me for writing this...

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

I don't think you even need to like fashion to get this one right.  Say it with me...WEAR BOTTOMS.  That you can't swim in.  A short mini skirt, short shorts, heck even boy shorts would of been better than this.  I am not saying she can't pull this off, but should she?

So Rihanna, I am gonna say that even while you may be on vacation, you shouldn't relax too much and skip proper dressing etiquette.  Somewhere, Joan Rivers would of had a field day with this on her celeb fashion show.  RIP in Joan...your fashion jokes (although pre-written) many times were hilarious and true.  So Rihanna BURN this outfit, its not cute at all...you have got plenty of money to buy something anything else!

Oops, She did it AGAIN...And its not Britney

Simply put...Again?  Really?  Ugh...

Christina Aguilera wears this little gold studded underwear number after making this comment on NBC's final performance night on the Voice:

“Your beautiful wife and your daughter and family are here tonight, and I just thought the lyrical connotation was a little derogatory towards women."
-On Tony Lucca's '99 Problems' Performance

Even Carson Daly looks uncomfortable

You know what I find derogatory towards women?  A 31-year-old mother wearing this on national television.

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

WEAR BOTTOMS!!!!

This is not the usual BURN or FIRE type of post.  But you cannot make that kind of comment and then go on the next night in this...Bad Christina.  BAD.

I Hate it when I leave MY PANTS at Home like Christina!

Ah Christina Aguilera, so many outfit selections since this season on 'The Voice' started and I have yet to comment.  Its hard to write about her, when you have Cee Lo sitting in the chair to the right with wigs and light up teeth.  But last night broke the dam of quietness from me.

Non-Fashion Rant: This season has really made me look at her different.  We get it, you don't want to be the sweet girl from the Micky Mouse Club or  'Genie in a Bottle' days.  But your negative attitude towards other contestants, who are not on your team-especially Tony Lucca, is starting to take away from the talent on stage.  And you only get one thing...fast forwarded by me. However last night, my DVR caught up to the live airing in time to see this little number...
Christina and Chris Mann
Armed with a suit jacket and giant Tiara, Christina left her dressing room without any bottoms on.  Oh No! Now I have seen this as a new fad, with celebs such as Rihanna and others attempting to rock this look.  And although I don't support that either, it somehow looks even worse on her.  As she is on National Television doing it.

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

PUT PANTS ON!!!

It is apparent Christina is trying to use Season 2 to revamp her image.  And the last few weeks, her outfit selections were a lot more subdued, almost acceptable. And then she came up with this little number.  This is my 3rd post about 'The Voice' and the terrible outfits.  Time to do more than BURN...3 strikes, time to FIRE!!!

P.S. And while your at it, Chris Mann take that scarf off.  You are in Los Angeles under hot lights...you look ridiculous

What do you guys think?  Comment below...

Voice Performers look Effortless (In a bad way!)

We have come to associate certain things with watching NBC's 'The Voice' this season.  We of course have Cee Lo and his crazy outfits.  Now he has added a white cat, named Purrfect, which P.S. is rented.  Adam Levine and Blake Sheltons continued "Bromance."  And Christina trying to steal all the attention from even the performers on stage.  But last night besides what has been deemed some-what average performances were two outfits that stood out way more than the voices and judges shenanigans.  And I felt the need to comment, as usual...

Karla Davis
Lets start out with country girl Karla Davis, with her sequined dress and cowboy boots.  Now I can appreciate she went for something a bit nicer, as she usually performs in jeans and flannel shirts.  But this is your first live show-STEP IT UP MORE!!!  You don't, I don't care who you are, wear cowboy boots and a short sequined dress and think that is okay. (For a better view of her outfit during her performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0CXcYrh5Go)

A little less drastic, but equally disappointing outfit selection, was Chessa's Navy and Red Capri track suit.  She tried to spice it up with a sparkly yellow top, but it came off sloppy. And then she threw on high heels.  Again, its your first live show, for millions of people in America to see.  And I know there is a comfort level, but she dressed up more for the battle rounds.  And the track suit isn't even Team Cee Lo's preferred team colors of Red and Black.  (For a better view of her outfit during her performance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im9ei0_UKt8&feature=player_embedded)

Chessa
Hmmm, how to save the outfits?

Karla's outfit is save-able, throw on a pair of high heels.  Simple fix, but do not go back to flannels-its National TV.  Chessa, scrap the warm ups and go glam, keep the sparkly top and build around it.

Lets be honest, this is your shot to make America remember you.  Our votes are what can make or break your time on the show and directly influence your career.  I know the show isn't called 'The Clothes' but even the boys made a effort for their stage appearance.   You are allowed to go a little crazy with your image on stage (i.e. Cee Lo) and get away with it.  I am still unsure who pulls the shots on the show, the artists or the coaches.  But the stylists of the voice, I am disappointed if you picked these out for them.  Karla keep the dress and boots, don't wear again together in front of me.  Chessa, the warm up suit should be for around the house or a casual event-not on stage.  And although not appropriate, no need to BURN.  But stylists or wardrobe department, do better, so we don't have to FIRE you!

What do you guys think?
