Golden Globes Focus...Probably NOT Where These Actresses Wanted

Its officially Awards Season...WOOOHOOO!!!  And last night was the first big event of the year, The Golden Globes.  And with any award season comes my favorite part, the questionable outfit selections.  There were a few "Interesting" choices and then there were the dresses that really stood out to me for different reasons, none of the them for particularly good reasons.  And here they are...

Left to Right: Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig and Halle Berry
I am not saying that these outfit selections by these women were necessarily the worst, but I had some interesting thoughts. Starting with Jessica Chastain, when you are already a pale female (which I am), a light blue gown probably isn't the best choice.  Plus with red hair and red lipstick?  And along with fellow presenter Kristen Wiig, neither really fill out the top of their dress.  So Jessica's kind of just bunches in the chest and hips like pillows, not too flattering.  For Kristen's, I cant decide if it remind me of an exclamation point or an arrow pointing down.  Neither of which should bring attention to kind of a boring outfit.  And finally Halle Berry's dress, was pretty, until the close up where it looked like her right side of her chest area was spilling out of the fabric.  Careful, you might lose something!

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

Perhaps with a needle and thread, some of these "Interesting" dress choices could be fixed.  Jessica's #1 problem is color choice.  And perhaps with a good seamstress the rest could be altered.  Maybe a bolder piece of jewelry, like a necklace with a bit more pop of color may have helped?  For Kristen's, if a cut out is the most interesting part of your outfit, probably not a good sign.  But she doesn't have the right upper body to pull this off and seemed almost uncomfortable.  Maybe also a better accessory piece could of helped.  And Halle, fix the chest area-just looked odd.  Colors were great.

I haven't seen enough of Kristen's outfits to comment on her style selections.  And I am pretty sure with the last few years Jessica has had, she has stylists to help her, Oscar noms and all.  So both ladies need to BURN these dresses and move on.  As for Halle, your people should of stopped this boob action from happening, but no need for drastic means.  Just I expect more next time.

And finally if you are gonna rock a gown, make sure you can walk in it and your shoes.  Girl's winner Lena Dunham looked like it was her first night in heels.  And with winning two awards and somewhat the 'Bell of the Ball', you may want to work on that.  You are in the big leagues now.

2013 People's Worst Choices Award

Last Night was the 2013 People's Choice Awards on CBS.  Although I did not watch it, I figured it was a good opportunity to check out some outfits on the beautiful people and comment accordingly.  As expected the men wore suits, always appreciated, and the women were a bit more daring.  But daring doesn't always mean good...

Katy Perry
Katy Perry's outfit or as I named this dress, "Black Strawberry Shortcake Dress" was out of the norm.  For Katy, this was a pretty tame outfit and almost boring for her.  Perhaps without the sleeves it would of been more appealing, and not a winterized floral dress.  And the shoes were very boring, although I can understand she wanted the dress to standout, but this Valentino dress is not all that amazing and needs some help.

Olivia Munn
The other look I was not a fan of was Oliva Munn's black and white multiple layers dress. The skirt kinda reminds me of a black and white lace wedding cake, probably not something you want to wear, only eat.    The trumpet-style skirt shouldn't flair below the knee, rather would of been much more flattering above it.  And she, like Katy, opted for minimal flair to go with their outfits, Olivia couldn't even muster up a fun shoe!

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

As for Katy's, I again wish the sleeves were not included in the dress.  And probably then shouldn't be worn during winter.  All she is missing is black tights to make this outfit even worse.  As for Olivia's, a simple skirt would of been much better or at least a shorter one, one tier less or so.  And perhaps a bracelet or something to drag attention away from this lackluster outfit.

In a night where most of the ladies at the awards show definitely had stylists helping them out (based on how they look on their own), these two ladies either didn't listen or stylists didn't help them out...especially Olivia.  Katy, BURN the sleeves and Olivia, FIRE your stylists.  This may have been the worst outfit on the red carpet...don't believe me? Feel free to check out other examples.  You know you want to...

Only Suitable for a PacMan Video Game!!!

Its not going out on a limb to call Chloe Sevigny "quirky."  As an independent movie darling, I suppose she has earned this right.  However when going to a serious movie, such as 'Lincoln', I am not sure that is the best place to show off that particular side.

In New York she wore this black and white suit, which perhaps because I am hungry, reminds me of hamburgers.  I am not sure even the 'Hamburglar' would approve.  And this would be a dream from PacMan and Ms. PacMan.  But really, to a red carpet premiere?

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

With bold patterns like this, you need at least one of your pieces to be a solid.  And a turtleneck undershirt probably wasn't enough of one.  Either her jacket or pants should of been a solid.  Maybe jeans with this would of worked.  Or even some sort of pop of color to try and help divert ones eyes from the human size video game. Heck, even the pants are too long, a pointed toe shoe coming out the bottom in a great color would have helped.  The whole thing is pretty atrocious.

Chloe, I am going to hope that your people didn't do this you, as that would just be mean.  And I would hope they know better. But I would BURN the entire outfit, as you nor I are not going to lose any sleep if this outfit goes away FOR-EVER.  And next time, if they allow you out in public again, remember to pair bold patterns with a solid or a smaller pattern.  And to not wear your hamburgers out, you eat them!

Sheer Dresses, Bad Shoes and Rainboots at Breaking Dawn Premiere

Kristen Stewart
Well  it is November 14th and that only means one thing, come Thursday night at Midnight, the "Twilighters" will be out full force, as Breaking Dawn Part 2 comes out.  And I would like to say if Part one and the outfits at the premiere are any indication of how the next part will be...I will be taking my time to rush to the theater.  Not only did the first part make me never want to ever have a vampire baby (I know right?), but it left me not as excited for part 2 of what was my favorite book in the series. Yes, I read them. No I am not ashamed.  But trying to give it a chance, I took a whirl around the premiere circuit of photos and found some awful examples of what not to do when you are an actress...or a female dressing for the red carpet.

Lets start with the star, Kristen Stewart.  Although I was shocked to see her out of her standard tight black jeans and black leather jacket...ummm, I think this dress might be a little too sheer.  She looks like an anatomically correct Barbie when you take her clothes off.   I appreciate the attempt, but millions and millions of people are going to see this.  I personally would of not gone this direction, it leaves a little too little for the imagination.

Elle Fanning

Then we move on to Dakota Fannings, Lil sister Elle.  While Elle is not in the movie, Dakota is. And I would be mad if my Lil sister stole attention from me at my own premiere.  However, it was not not in a good way.  It looks like her dress skirt was too long and she decided just to wrap it around her waist.  And the shoes?  These may be the worst shoes I have ever Ever EVER seen. I am assuming she tried for a Japanese theme, but she failed. Miserably.  A sumo outfit may have come off better than this pink number.

Alexandra Patsavas
And finally, Alexandra Patsavas.  Yeah I don't know who she is either.  She is a music supervisor who worked on the film.  So not an actress, but still should be used to dressing for premieres...or to go out in public.  And while I admire her attempt at color, not sure yellow looking rain boots are the way to go.  Especially in what is one of the most anticipated red carpets of the year.  But alas, this is what she decided to go with.

Hmmm, how to save the outfits?

I can explain away a lot, but you gotta think that if you are planning to attend such a big premiere, you would dress accordingly.  I think Kristen just made a bad choice.  Perhaps her and her people wanted to make a statement, but not sure this is the right one.  I do like that she dressed up, so she did get a few points.  But Elle and Alexandra...there are no words.  If a picture tells a thousand words, then these pictures are all curse words!

Elle and Alexandra need to BURN their entire outfits and go home.  And Kristen, while I don't think the dress was great, it could be better with a longer slip skirt.  So just try to do better, but again, you are out of jeans!

MTV Music Awards-I Expected More...

I have a lot of comments about last nights MTV Awards, most of which I will keep to myself.  I remember growing up watching big flashy performances, knowing all the songs and huge stars from all industries in attendance. I found this years extremely lack luster in appearances and performances and fast forwarded through most of it...except for Pink's performance.  The girl loves her aerial ropes. But for your approval, here is a quick version of my MTV awards fashion observations:

Left to Right: Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus, Pink, Jessica Szohr, Chris Brown and Wesley Snipes (in Demolition Man)

Well Nicki Minaj was...Nicki Minaj.  In a patterned body suit with red piping and bright yellow wig, it seemed like she was ready to perform.  But then realized that was her red carpet out.  Was she trying to be a cop for the night?  Or cat burglar?  But I guess that is her persona, wild crazy outfits and hair.

Hey Pink, I think Miley Cyrus is trying to steal your look! I know Miley wants to appear older and tougher, but stealing Pinks style isn't going to help.  What's next-are you going to dye your hair pink too?  Pink beat you to that already too...

And Jessica Szohr with the  slit up both sides black dress, lace up ankle booties and a animal print headband, I am not sure where you are going. Safari?

Finally to Chris Brown, Wesley Snipes wants his hair back from Demolition Man.  You look ridiculous.  And I am still trying to figure out when people started liking him again?

Hmmm, how to save the outfits?

Probably not really the point of saving, but more commenting on them.  And I think I feel better with my fashion rant above.  There were lots more terrible outfits, mostly from the men in the rapping industry.  I didn't know camo shorts, wife beaters and a lack of style were red carpet approved.  But I guess in the hip-hop industry its allowed?  So I left them alone, what is the point?   I guess it all comes down to I expect more from the women above and, "If you can't say anything nice...come sit next to me!"

Another Day...Another Movie Premiere...Another Bad Dress

Total Recall opens in the theaters today and so the premiere photos have been plentiful.  And as much as I would like to pick on some men in suits, who am I kidding, I don't want to pick on men in suits.  I like men in suits, more men should wear them.  But the premiere performance that bombed (hopefully the movie wont) comes from the female stars of the film, Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel.

Left to Right: Jessica Biel and Kate Beckinsale
Let's start with Kate first, as she is on my list of 'Style I Admire.'  But I do not admire this dress.  Kate is pretty and has such an amazing physique that she can pull almost anything off, but even this Anaconda looking dress is too much for her.  Did she kill it and skin it on her way?  Cuz that may have made it more interesting.  As one of the few female action stars (see Underworld Trilogy) and looks badass in the trailer, I would believe it. But what I cannot believe is her hair stylist let her go out in with what I can only phrase as Medusa Snake looking hair.  She has amazing hair-I think she could of done better.
Now on to Jessica...in a light pink Dior number.  The pockets on the side seem to be a new trend, but aside from the fact that she looks like a giant cotton candy, there is nothing else to the outfit.  The jewels she is wearing don't fit with the style of the dress-shouldn't be wearing pearls?  And the shoes and matching clutch do very little to help out the look.  But the worst part is the length of the dress.  It needs to either be shorter or longer, but not mid calf.
2012 Fall Christian Dior Show Model
Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

For Kate, I just don't like the dress.  It was a brave attempt, but with no other accessories and lack luster hair, there is nothing to stand against the dress.  So I wouldn't try the look again.  Maybe if it was a shorter dress-like a python mini dress?  Add some amazing heels and there is a bit of a start.  For Jessica, the length is wrong to begin with too.  As you can see in the models picture from the Dior Runway show, the length on the model is much more flattering.  And I love her Electric Blue pumps.  The model completely outshines the movie star in this one, maybe Jessica's people should take another look at this photo before attempting this again.

Kate and Jessica probably shouldn't want to recall this event outfits ever again, sorry bad joke, but I think you get the idea.  Kate you need to BURN this dress and Jessica, this makes you a repeat offender.  Time to start deciding if you want to keep your peeps or FIRE.  I personally would take a long look at the shoe choices. But I have seen you look much better recently, and if I were you,  I would expect more from the people I pay to dress me.  Just saying...

Hoping the Movie is Better than the Premiere Outfits for Dark Knight Rises

Dark Knight Rises will definitely be one of 2012's biggest films.  It probably wont be as record breaking as the last one, which was more about Heath Ledgers death and performance than Batman.  But I am expecting big things and cannot wait to see it.  Originally I was going to post a picture of one actresses outfit from the Monday "Knight" premiere in New York, until I saw more outfits...

Michelle Trachtenberg
Lets start with my original post victim, Michelle Trachtenberg.  There was nothing to this outfit.  The embellishment low cut front looks more like leopard print than sparkle.  And could she of picked a more boring nude shoe?  I also read she had stockings on. Really?  Its plain Blah.

Juno Temple
Next Up, Juno Temple.  I had to look her up, as I had no idea who she was.  She is an English Actress brought in to play Holly Robinson in the movie.  Perhaps she should of stayed home.  The dress could be cute if she had the right body shape to fill it out.  But as it is, its completely shapes and extremely boring with the matching black shoes.  She also felt no need to add a pop of color to the black potato sack looking dress.

Hailee Steinfeld

And finally Hailee Steinfeld, another actress, who wore another terrible outfit.  We can talk about how her dress length is way too long.  Or how her sandals do not go with the dress or event at all.  Or question whether she ripped off her mom's table cloth on the way to the premiere

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

I am going to make a serious effort to fix these if I can.  Lets see...Michelle could make a better showing with getting rid of those shoes and adding a different color.  Heck, even black would be better.  And maybe a bigger statement bracelet pulling out some of the embezzlement from the dress.  For Juno, she also needs accessories to go with the plain jane dress.  I would try and see if I could get it a bit more form fitting to try and show of any possible curves.  The shoes need to go as well, also needs a fun shoe.  She is young, she can pull it off.  As for Hailee, cut the dress to her thigh, immediately.  Again, needs a different show, maybe something with the pink in the dress or even silver.  And the bag should go with the shoe, something smaller.  Its kinda of "Old Lady" to me, but then again, she is wearing a table cloth looking dress.

It was pretty evident when looking at the premiere pictures, the "Movie Star" females just did it better and these young stars need a lot of work.  I am guessing most of them didn't have help in picking out their outfits. So step 1, find stylists.  Step 2, they need to get the Batman special effects team to blow something up and throw everything into the FIRE and start all over.  Go home and think about what you have done...and do not do it again.  Really ladies, poor poor showing.  Next time, you might as well borrow Bruce Wayne's Bat Suit, that would of looked better than your outfits.

BET Awards should of been named the BAD Awards

Last night was the 2012 BET Awards.  And I will admit, not really my music scene, nor do I watch the Television Network so I was in the dark who a lot of these people were.  So I am a bit out of my comfort zone, but here goes.  I of course knew the familiar faces like Beyonce, Jay-Z, Kanye, etc.  But it was a awards show so I am paying it is proper dues.  And oh my, were the clothes bad.  Here is a range of examples of the atrocities I had to look at.  It was so bad, I HAD to stop looking for more pictures.

T to B: Beyonce, Kerry
Washington and Laurieann Gibson
Shall we start with Pop Superstar and richer than God, Beyonce?  Here is her lime green gown and a picture what the designer intended it to look like.  Did she think she was going to a Toga Party?  And I am sure she knows her tiara is supposed to be on your head...not around your waste.

Then we have Kerry Washington, not a musician, but an actress.  I don't want to talk mean about retail chains like Forever 21, but this is typically what I see in those types of stores...cheap basics.  Certainly she could of done better, no effort was put into this nude tube top and black skirt outfit slection.  When I first saw the picture, I thought we had a wardrobe malfunction.

And then Laurieann Gibson is she late for her booking at the Los Angeles County jail?  And should one pant leg really be higher than the other?  But I think that is the least of what should be her worries.

Hmmm, how do I save the outfit?

Let's put it this way, these weren't even performance outfits and those were worse. For Beyonce, I would of stuck with the designers idea.  I don't like it bunched around her right leg, it actually makes her look shorter, even with almost her full left showing.  A belt of some sort was needed to synch the waist, not sure that one was it.  For Kerry, she needs some color, stat.  If your gonna go with a simple black polyester skirt, you need to throw on something more eye catching on the top.  And the nude belt that blends into the blah looking top, is not it.  And Laurieann...Oh Laurieann.

Beyonce, you are a two-time offender.  Once for your casual attire and now for your red carpet gown.  Simply put, I still expect better.  Kerry, this is just boring.  I know your not a performer and it wasn't necessarily your night.  But you put effort in to getting dressed to go, take the next step. If you hired stylists for this, you should FIRE.  If they can mess up a presenters outfit, wait until you need them for something more important.  And Laurieann...oh poor Laurieann.  Stick with Choreography and BURN this jumpsuit IMMEDIATELY!!!

This Arrow May have Missed its Bullseye

I can appreciate that a young Hollywood rising star like Blake Lively wanted to go for a glamorous look for her newest premiere. Her next role is in the Oliver Stone film, 'Savages'. So again, grown up film, big important director requires a special outfit. And I was going to skip right by this one until I noticed something...

THE GIANT ARROW POINTING UP TO HER CROTCH!
(Pardon my crudeness)
And now I cannot stop staring at it. Not that this isn't more the designer of the dresses fault than Blakes, but still she wore it. So she had of noticed something she liked about it. It’s a pretty dress, if not for the fact that now I keep seeing arrows everywhere. (There are more, check it out)

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?
The shape of the dress with the mermaid tail is very pretty. And let’s face it, fits her well. But the pattern is just too distracting. If it was a solid nude or solid black color, it would have been a vast improvement. She could leave the embesselment on the chest area for a little pizzazz. And her red lipstick provides her pop of color. Worst case, cut the dress off write above the arrow, before it reaches its bullseye and rock the mini.

Blake this is a pretty dress, just a couple lines in the wrong places. So no need to BURN this dress per se, or FIRE your stylists (it’s better than some of the stuff you wear on Gossip Girl), but you are being watched. You have been WARNED!!!

MTV Awards-Disappointing and Fashionably Hard to WATCH

I love Love LOVE movies and I used to really look forward to the MTV Movie Awards.  I admit, I am not an Oscar nominated film fan, generally the movies I love are more of the Razzie nominated types.  So MTV awards were always a chance to see my favorite movies win some type of award, you know like...best kiss or for example.  (Shout out to Ryan and Rachel in the Notebook.)

But this year I not only found myself disappointed with the show, but also with the fashion. I haven't seen Hunger Games, so I felt really old watching it.  And not even the movies biggest stars were present.  With the exception of a few, its lacked its usual star power.  And host Russell Brands jokes left more crickets than giggles. Him shouting "Twilight" and "Hunger Games" after every bad joke grew tiresome.  (And I am pretty sure he did that last year too.)  Relative to fashion, it would be easier to say who looked good, than who looked bad.  So without further delay, here are my picks for worst dressed:

From Left to Right: Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Hough, Brooke Hogan, Emma Watson and Russell Brand
Starting from the left, I think Elizabeth Banks is angry she wasn't cast as Catwoman in the newest Batman or maybe trying out for a Spiderman villain.  And I thought Julianne Hough's was bad, until I saw Brooke Hogans.  Are they trying out to be a female tag team in the WWE?  And Emma Watson, tennis anyone?  Looks like something I have seen the Williams sisters wear during a match.  And Russell Brand...a fur belt?  Really??
Center: Kristen Stewart
And Kristen Stewart, you walk the entire red carpet in high heels, but you win the award for best movie and you jump onstage in your Chucks?  Worn and dirty ones at that. You were sitting most of the show, your feet were that tired?

Hmmm, how to save the outfits?

I am willing to give most of them the benefit of the doubt on these outfits.  As they wanted to all seem young and hip, maybe going a bit over the top.  And then others are just strange (that would be you Russell.)  How to save?  They all had okay shoes?

I would say most of these outfits should BURN, leave the shoes.  Kristen can throw her shoes in with the burning clothes, buy a new pair girlfriend.  And I am pretty sure Russell doesn't have a stylists, but the others should threaten theirs.  They don't need to FIRE today, but again, they should be warned.

Comments? Twilight? Hunger Games?

No Smooth Sailing for Miley's White Jacket

My DVR was busy last night taping what was surely the big two events on network television, The Apprentice Finale and the 2012 American Billboard Awards. I have hated on Apprentice enough this year (Yes, you Aubrey), so figured I would go with a red carpet event analysis.

There were a lot of "interesting" stage outfits, but I try to stay away from those, as they are generally a bit over the top. The one outfit that caught my eye as I forwarded through it, was Miley Cyrus's White Jacket...

I am not going to comment on the fact she has no bra on, that the outfit was super short or that she wasn't wearing bottoms...its Vegas and she is ALMOST 21.  Let's face it, that is all pretty acceptable in the City of Sin. I will start with the shoulder pads. I am pretty sure those went out of style before she was even born. And the jacket itself is pretty boxy. Its hard to see it here, but if you see the video of her presenting (below), I think you would agree. She barely moves her arms, partly I believe because she was super uncomfortable. And who wouldn't be? One wrong move and something might come out that isn't supposed to come out! (Thank you double-sided tape) Also hard to see is a thin necklace that goes around her neck, crosses in her cleavage area and then seems to go around her back? Maybe it was supposed to keep her jacket closed, but it just looked odd.

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

I do like her shoes...A LOT. I think if you're going to do a drastic outfit like this, to draw attention, it should of been more fitted, especially around the waist. I didn't like the style of the jacket with all the buttons either, maybe something simpler and sleeker.  Was she captaining a ship?

At least Miley dressed up. I have become accustomed to seeing her wearing really bad casual clothing while strolling around Los Angeles with her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. So I am happy she made the effort. And while searching for the picture, I noticed she made a lot of 'Best of' lists', so I seem to be going against the grain.  I think the idea was a good one by her stylists, just a miss on the radar if you ask me. So no need to FIRE anyone for this outfit, maybe her other outfit selections. I would BURN that weird chain and keep the shoes. If you are by chance an eleven, feel free to send my way!!!

Comments?  What do you think?

Scarlett Johansson's not the Devil in Prada

With the movie Avengers coming out soon as one of the "Summer Blockbusters" I am expecting to see more than the average amount of movie premieres.  And we know what that means, more movie premiere outfits. The mostly male cast was all suited up at the last event, so they seemed to fly by unharmed (you know because Iron Man can fly), but Scarlett Johansson was not so lucky.

At the London premiere, she wore a peplum dress, which has become especially trendy in 2012.  For those of you out there that don't know, per Wikipedia:

Peplum originates in the Greek word for 'tunic' and may refer to one of the following:
  • A genre of Italian films also known as 'Sword and Sandal'
  • Peplos, a kind of women's garment in ancient Greece
  • Veil
  • Short overskirt that is usually attached to a fitted jacket, blouse or dress
And although this peplum is a little more subdued than some of the others I have seen thus far on the red carpet, the patterns on Scarlett's dress make up for it.  I know mixing patterns is okay and in many cases required.  But one pattern has to blend into what we call a neutral.  Without it, it kinda of looks like this mish-mash of a dress you see above.

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

If the patterns attempting to mix weren't enough, she went ahead and added the also severely popular braided updo, adding yet a 3rd pattern.  And while I can appreciate her trying to tie her red heels into her outfit, they blend into the red carpet so much, she seems to missing her feet!  Change the shoes, step 1.  Step 2, I would of gone without the red (flowers?) on top...but designers can be designers.

Scarlett, while your style has improved as you have gotten older and more famous, this was a huge miss.  And while it doesn't deter me from wanted to go see the movie, it makes me want to check out your wardrobe less.  So its too soon to say whether you need to FIRE your stylists, but you should certainly BURN this dress.  Sorry Prada, but even the devil wouldn't wear you!!!

Brooklyn wont SINK the Battleship...Yet!

I am personally very excited to see the movie 'Battleship' due out May 18th. (Hello Taylor Kitsch)  And the publicity tour seems to have set sail pretty furiously, as I keep seeing all the stars out on the red carpet.  And while most of model Brooklyn Deckers (I know she is an "Actress" now) outfits have been very good, we have a small miss here at the Sidney Australia premiere.
Brooklyn Decker in J Mendel
The tuxedo inspired J Mendel dress is actually very nice, if you pretend not to see the gold sleeves.  You remember when you were a kid and your friend would put their hands behind their backs and you use your arms to converse for them.  You would do all kinds of funny things, while they are trying to hold a conversation.  Anyways, it looks like she has her arms behind her back and its someone else arms standing in for her.  Am I wrong?  The sleeves just don't go with the dress.  And I cannot see any shoes, so sadly I cannot comment on those. At first glance, I thought she threw on a gold jacket, but then I realized, nope that was done on purpose.
LeAnn Rimes & Nicole Kidman
And while I was looking for a picture of this dress, I found something even MORE amazing.  A few posts back I commented on a dress LeAnn Rimes wore to the Academy of Country Music Awards.  A dress similar to one Nicole Kidman had already worn.  Here is reminder to the right.  Well seems like Brooklyn Deckers stylists were a fan as well, only she wore it in black.  This Stella McCartney dress didn't get too much love from me a few weeks ago, but I think it is a little bit better on the model-turned-actress, than the country singer-turned actress. The cutouts are a bit different and its not a one shoulder dress, but I still think we could do without!
(On Right) Brooklyn Decker in
Stella McCartney

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

Since I already discussed the Stella dress, we will leave that one alone.  As for the J Mendel dress, lets rip off the sleeves and then there should be a vast improvement.

Overall, its not a terrible ding in the 'Battleship' armor for Brooklyn.  We are all allowed a few bad clothing choices (I just cleaned out my closest-I can attest to that.)  So no need to BURN the dress, just the sleeves...might be pretty.  And the stylists, from as far as I can tell, have done right by you, so need to FIRE.

But what do you guys think?  Lots of dresses, so little time to critique!

Hunger Games Premiere-Comes off just a little short

I really wanted to post something in regards to the 'Hunger Games' premieres, surely there must be a outfit disaster somewhere.  But more or less, its been pretty respectable as Red Carpets events go.  And with premieres all over the world, every other day it seems, makes for a lot of wardrobe changes.  The star of the movie, Jennifer Lawrence (I had to IMDB her too) has done a nice job so far.  She is a 22-year old, on the rise to probably more fame than she ever imaged in this tween sensation flick and has already nominated for an Oscar.  But, alas in NYC she hit a snag...

There is just something about this dress that bothers me.  The color is pretty, but I hate the black shoes, the belt draws attention to a awkward place and the cut of the dress just seems off.  And with the lack of jewelry and accessories, its kind of just blah to me.

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

The low cut front would be much better on a longer dress.  I think with the current design, it makes Jennifer look shorter and compact.  So if you make the dress skirt portion floor length, it stretches the whole look out.  Remove the belt and add a sparkly necklace and all would be better.  Its actually super surprising to me, since most of her other premiere outfits have been floor length gowns.  And New York is a place where fashion excels and is expected, so its disappointing.  If the dress it to remain short, only suggestion is to still remove the belt and maybe throw on a tan shoe, to elongate the legs and a great clutch bag.

Let's be honest, the dress choice was a easy mistake.  And although I do not think Jennifer needs to BURN the dress or FIRE her stylists (who are obviously on staff for a media blitz like this), I would return the dress back to the designer with my notes.  It could of been worse and I am sure we will see some mistakes in the future, but you are young Jennifer and I will forgive you...once!

But I know how I feel-What do you think about the dress and over-all look?  Comment below.

Broken Mirror Mirror, But no 7 Years of Bad Luck

There are two Snow White remakes coming out this year and hopefully the movies are better than this premiere outfit for Lily Collins.  The 'Mirror Mirror' premiere happened this last weekend in Hollywood and although this may not be the most obvious choice to comment on, I have seen this trend a lot in the last couple weeks...dresses that are far too big for its celebrity wearer. This reminds me of a young girls playing dress up in their moms party dresses.

As you can see, the skirt of the dress is extremely too "Poofy" for Lily.  Per IMDB, she is 5'5" and someone substantially taller is probably a better choice to pull off the dress.  The pattern itself is pretty and even the bodice fits nicely.  But the bottom half simple over-whelms her.

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

I am thinking if the bottom portion was a bit shorter it would still be too much.  Perhaps remove some of the underneath fluff and shorten and it could improve it a bit.  And maybe add a bulky necklace or earrings to offset the her lower half?  At least something to attract the eyes away from the bottom.
Far Right: Lucy Hale
As I mentioned, this is a fad I have noticed over the last week.  After watching 'Pretty Little Liars' this week, one of the dresses stood out to me the same way.  The actress wearing the dress, Lucy Hail, is only 5'2".  And although I love the pattern of the dress, you will notice she is swallowed up by it as well (picture to the right.)

Although I am a fan of glamorous red carpets and I can appreciate what Lily was trying to do, I don't think her main objective was to be overshadowed by her dress.  Lily is still young, still figuring out her fashion sense.  And no, this dress isn't by far the worst thing I have seen...even today.  But its a trend I am not a fan of.  So while we don't need to BURN the dress, (maybe give it to someone taller-i.e. me) or FIRE the stylists, I would like stylists and wardrobe departments to take notice.  I do not support this fad and please stop it!!!

But what do you think?  Comment below...

I Am Not Blue Over This Outfit (not even a little)

I am just gonna say it, Alan Cummings scares me.  He plays all these weird little creepy characters in movies.  You may not know his name, but you have no doubt seen him in movies  However after seeing him in this blue plaid suit, he now terrifies me!

I can only hope this is some sort of joke, but apparently it wasn't.  He wore this to the Emmy "Artistic" awards-is this what we are calling this suit...Artistic?

Before you ask, he actually is a voice for a smurf in the upcoming film, but that doesn't make this okay.  And really tapered pants?  They verge on skinny pants that some of the young kids are wearing today.  I am all for a 3-piece suit...but I am gonna have to jump ship on this look.

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

Well take away the pants and jacket and replace with a classic black tux or suit, you may be able to get away with the vest.  Those shoes have got to go as well.  Way to chunky for the suit.

Not much left to say, I am pretty sure a stylist picked this out, or at least let him walk the red carpet looking this way, thinking this was funny and a way to make some sort of statement.  Well it did and now I am making one...YUCK YUCK YUCK-FIRE FIRE FIRE!!!

Step Away from the Kiddie Department

When someone is nominated for a Oscar certain things are assumed:
1.  The person actually has talent
2.  Probably making some good money on at least the next movie they snag (you know in case it was an indie)
3.  Hired a Stylist to walk the Red Carpet

And if same said person, is also in one of the most popular Movie Franchises going on right now, they would need to have someone on staff to help for all the premieres and occasions.  Well Anna Kendrick, I guess you are a prime example of why someone shouldn't assume.  Because you are TOTALLY making an ASS out of U and ME!!!

For those of you who don't know, Anna was nominated for the Oscar as Supporting Actress in 'Up in the Air' with Clooney and is in those little Twilight movies.  So she is basically everywhere.  And it upsets me when I see her at a movie premiere dressed like this. Certainly one would assume she could afford to get a stylist or at least afford a full size adult dress.  But there I go assuming again.

Hmmm, how to save the dress?

First off those shoes have to go far far far away from this dress.  I am all for a yellow shoe, but this is not only the wrong shoe, but wrong color for this navy dress. The mini dress is not flattering and for too short, for even her.  It almost looks like a trash back with blue spray paint wrapped around her.

I would say to Anna, you have several issues.  If your stylist told you to wear this combo, FIRE him or her immediately.  There is no way to save the dress, so take it outside and BURN!!!

Boys Gone Bad

Thought it was a good time to pick on some boys and since I learned how to post multiple pictures on one blog, its all fair in Love and...fashion?

Michael Cera
All these guys were at the same Movie Premiere this week, about a guy who beats up his new girlfriends Ex-boyfriends, or defends her honor...or something like that.  I know, rushing right off to stand in line for opening night with you.  But just because it sounds like a lame movie, doesn't mean you can take the premiere lightly.  If the movie sucks, I will most likely remember your outfit more than the crap movie you made.

1.  Michael Cera (star of the movie)... This is too easy.  First off, I looked it up, your 5'10" no way your pants should ever be that short.  And if they are, don't keep your hands in your pockets.  I would never be caught dead in pants like that.  And who wears a suit, which is probably okay for his laid back style, with casual penny loafers?  Or I guess you might call them boat shoes.  Regardless, this is bad.  But at least you wore a suit.

Judd Apatow & Jack Black
2. Judd Apatow and Jack Black...Let's face it, both of these guys are loaded.  Jude Apatow has made tons of crude movies, such as 40-Year Old Virgin, SuperBad and Knocked up.  And Jack Black has starred in several Crude Movies and a couple good ones, School of Rock, The Holiday, Airborne (classic 80's Movie) and Kung Fu Panda.  But both of these grown men, who I can only assume came to support friend Cera, couldn't dress up a little more than this.  Black looks like he just went to the gym, which hello based on his body, we can see he did not.  And Apatow, well think he may always dress this way.  At least iron your shirt dude~

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

My help to Michael Cera would be remove your hem in the bottom of your pants to lengthen and change those shoes.  Heck I might even accept a tennis shoe as opposed to this brown one.  As for the other two...

Look its pretty obvious no stylists were consulted for any of these guys.  Not sure if any of them have one, doubt it, which should be step number 1.  As for the outfits, to save time and effort, because they need to conserve as much as possible, BURN everything!

Throw her Overboard...Please!!!

All I can think is, I hope Tommy Hilfiger paid you well for wearing this outfit, cuz I don't know who else would of designed this dress, its his colors! And are you planning on going sailing today?

Katie Holmes, I know your daughter is supposed to be the fashionable one, but I gotta think you help dress her.  And maybe she might look cuter in this outfit than you.  However, even more tragic are those shoes.  I understand that when you are married to a older man (for those of you living in a cave, its Tom Cruise) you need to dress more mature, but the older ladies that I used to work with at Talbots wore these kinds of shoes.  Not a girl in her early thirties.

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

The dress could be cute, if you changed her shoes and added some accessories, not that boring necklace.  I know nautical is in for the summer, but I wouldn't gather for a red carpet affair.

Katie, I used to be a fan.  But I, unlike apparently the rest of the fashion public, cannot stand how you dress.  And maybe you wore these shoes while filming the movie you portray Jackie O in, but really, lose the shoes.  PLEASE!

I don't think you had a stylist for this, not even a real red carpet affair, so you picked this and all your other outfits out yourself.  May I also add, not a fan of "boyfriend" jeans that you always wear.  But back to my point, Katie....I miss the days when you were Joey Potter on 'Dawsons Creek', but those days have long sailed away.  (Sorry going astray again.) Katie, the dress can stay, hire some better stylists (I know you have some) and BURN those shoes.  Or donate to your grandmother!

R-E-S-P-E-C-T...Oops, sorry wrong singer

Ok, so I will admit, I know very little about Patti LaBelle.  Yes, I know she is a singer, but not at famous as say Aretha Franklin?  I am not that musically challenged.  I found out she was the one that originally penned 'Lady Marmalade'  (Woooohooo Pink) with a band and won a couple Grammy's.  But just because I don't know much about her, doesn't make this outfit okay.

I read that she wrote Gospel Music as well, well she might want to start praying.  This is hideous. Not sure what she was on the red carpet for-it just looks scary there.  I want to say she is either going to church on a Sunday or a quickie wedding in Vegas.  Either is not an acceptable excuse.

Between the fan, which I will let slip because it has been super hot and that hat...this blog could go on for days.  But it won't-don't worry.

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

Maybe if the dress was a little more flowey and less tight in the skirt area it could be okay.  But the ruffles up top going into the straight skirt, just doesn't make for a pleasant coupling.  And the hat....if she wants to do the black and white hat, she should include black somewhere else in her outfit.

Ok, lets be honest.  She has been around for years and I will promise you has a group of stylist to help her dress for her events....whatever they may be.  So Aretha, I mean sorry, Patti, when you get home, look in the mirror.  And then call up your stylists and FIRE!!!
