What is with Kerry Washington and Magazine Covers?

Sunday in my condo is cleaning day.  I know, excitement galour, but you gotta do what you gotta do. And while dusting my living room and arranging my magazines on my coffee table, my eyes went to my newest copy of In Style magazine from early February.  I hadn't read it yet, nor really paid attention to the cover.  But my eyes caught the wording "Kerry's Candid Q & A" and I realized that the random female on the cover was Kerry Washington.

I still didn't believe it, so I turned to the pages and sure enough, several pages about Scandal star Kerry Washington, who I watch on a weekly basis. I am not saying she looks bad or anything, just doesn't look like her at all.  And then I remembered a while ago a cover of Lucky Magazine, where the same thing happened.  What that is Kerry Washington?

Inside both magazines, the pictures that corresponded with the article looked just like her.  But yet why do magazines feel the need of altering covers where celebs are unrecognizable.  Even comparing the two pictures above, doesn't even seem like the same person.  And this isn't even photoshopping an arm or leg to look thinner, this is essentially changing a face.

In case you were wondering, there are a few covers where Kerry looks like she does every Thursday on my television.  Or for that matter what she looks like in the magazine.  I know this happens to many stars, but seems so drastic for Kerry.  I went back and organized my magazines and continued on cleaning.  But this little trend stood out in my mind, just thought it was weird.  And for giggles, here is a magazine cover, where she actually looks herself....and oddly enough a wedding version of In Style.

What do you guys think?  Anyone else you see this happening to?  Le me know...

As if...Why didn't I think of this???

From time to time I post pictures  not to BURN or FIRE, but rather because they make me laugh. This is that case in point, duh.  Clearly Ellen had herself photoshopped into this scene from the movie 'Clueless.'  And all I can think is...why didn't I think of this?

This was posted on The Ellen Shows Facebook page yesterday for #throwbackthursday.  And while a lot of people complained she took Brittany Murphys spot in the scene (which if you have watched the movie at all, you would know they hadn't even met her yet), the picture simply is just awesome.

I just saw this article on E! Online, Todd Chrisley's take on the Oscar attire of 2015.  If you don't know who Todd is, he is the some-what flamboyant father on the USA show, "Chrisley Knows Best." And although I initially passed it off as a 'Kardashian-type' show, it is so much better!  But anyways, this is not a TV show review, but my favorite of the pictures he commented on that I felt compelled to share:

Poor Fitz.  And although I would say this is a 'Scandal' spoiler, let's face it, for the last 4-seasons they have both broken each others hearts multiple times.  So don't worry people, we still have a shot at jam in Vermont.  #teamfitz  But I love the comment, "This is why the President decided to go to war."

What the Heck? Weird Trends, that I just don't get...but keep seeing

There is a couple weird trends that I just don't get.  So why not write about it, maybe someone will explain it to me...

I have noticed in a few of the last award shows, an actress wears a sparkly dress and then there is this weird belt wrapped around her waist.  And it doesn't seem to go with it, but more of a last minute add on.  Case in point, Nicole Kidman at the Oscars.

 I just don't get it.  I mean none of her outfit really seems to go together, so maybe it works.  And the red ribbon belt, in theory put there to define a waist, doesn't really do the job anyways.  Just seems out of place to me on her thin figure.

The other trend I don't get is one I noticed on my cousin first.  He wears his pants rolled up slightly, causing a separation of about 2-3 inches from his shoes.  Then he throws on crazy colored or patterned socks. Then I started noticing other boys rocking the same fashion.  Now I turn on the Oscars tonight and will.i.am rocks the same thing, minus the fun socks.

I won't even comment on the rest of the outfit.  Will.i.am is a rapper, producer...and I think actor?  My cousin is seventeen and not a rapper, producer or actor!  You can see the reason in why I find this odd.

If someone wants to try and explain these to me, that would be great.  Is it just me or do other people like these trends???  Comment below...

It's Oscar Night...

Tonight is the night that anyone who is anyone...better have a stylist.  It is also the one night of the year, that I can 100% blame a stylist.  Because although they may not of made the final decision, they probably brought the celeb the dress and/or suit to choose from.  So here goes...

I absolutely hate Solange Knowles red paint suit with train, there really isn't any other way to say it:

With the big hair and full coverage red outfit (is it a dress or a suit), its a little much and a little too boring at the same time.  Without any sparkles or anything to draw attention from the outfit, all I can say is she reminds me of a red Gumby.   And man a mock turtle neck just screams elegance right?  Yet the biggest question, why is she even there?

The other dress I thought was terrible was by a young actress that I haven't ever posted about, or at least remember posting about, Chloe Grace Moretz. The pleated strapless gown that almost swallows her whole would probably of even enough to write about.  But throw in the floral pattern and it made it even more worth-while to write about.  Her Miu Miu gown is pretty bad bad.

The satin top started out okay enough, but then went down a floral hill really really fast.  Again, nothing to draw attention away from the dress.  No fun shoes.  No cute clutch. No sparkling million dollar necklace. Even her hair is kinda blah.

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

For Solange's dress, there is just so many layers.  Maybe remove the sleeves, make it lower cut in the front or try and remove some of the multiple layers?

For Chloe, the pattern is what really turns me off.  It doesn't scream Oscar as much as "My Mom Made this Dress and I am wearing it to the Oscars".  And I know that isn't the case.

And Gumby...hey, its Gumby.  Its a classic and should be left alone.  And who doesn't love a green suit?

Anyways no need to delay the inevitable.  Both these dresses should BURN, it's the least we can do for them.  And as for the stylist's, well Chloe is still young.  So I will give her a pass.  But Solange, hello, your sister is Beyonce.  Doesn't she like own the world?  FIRE your stylist and what can I say, I expected more!

Throwback Thursday:Rocket Dog Platform Flip Flops

Yesterday I saw this picture of Rihanna in platform Alexander Wang boots. And while they are quite ugly,  they immediately took me back to the 90's when not only were these types of boots trendy, but every shoe had a platform. Yes even including your flip flops.  So I decided to take a trip back with Rocket Dog and Roxy to track down such amazing footwear.

Don't lie, we all had them.  In multiple colors, shapes and heel sizes.  And in case you are worried, you can still buy them, as Rocket Dog and Roxy are still going strong. Although after perusing the websites, Roxy seems to have settled on the more traditional flat flip flop, which is far more current these days.

How many of these did you own.  Pretty sure I had them all...wonder what ever happened to those??? The are probably next to all my Puma tennis shoes I had, in every color too.  Ah, the good old days.

Apparently, there are MORE than One way to Skin A Cat...Pick it up off the Floor!

So I will admit, I was going to write about an outfit worn by Kanye West.  But is anyone else as tired of him as me?  Now not only is he getting press by rushing the stage at the Grammy's, dissing Beck and his random appearance at the SNL 40th Anniversary Special, but all E Online does now is stories about the Kardashians and Kanye. So I am from here on out...for a while at least...K & K free (Kanye & Kardashian) on this blog.

Now if we have learned anything, if Kanye isn't making news another rapper surely is, Chris Brown.  I saw this picture of him at Fashion Week in NYC with his girlfriend Karrueche Tran and knew I had to write about it.

What the heck is he wearing?  Lions Fur?  Nothing says classy like a grey hoodie at a fashion show...under a fur parka.  I had to look it up and Karrueche is a model and seems in her element, Chris not so much.  Did she dress him? Or did he pull his fur rug off of the ground and wrap it around his shoulders?  Is it supposed to keep his gold chains warm?

Hmmm, how to save the outfit?

The blue hair and grey hooded sweatshirt seem distinctly out of place at fashion week.  And the length of the sleeves seem very feminine to me.  If he is dead set on this look, why not find one with longer sleeves and a hood? If you are going to go for it, really go for it. Hopefully its faux, because it doesn't even look as nice as hers.  And lets face it, who else thinks Chris Brown would wear a fake fur coat after EVERYTHING he has done.  Not me!

But before I let Chris know what I think he should do with his outfits, I found some other gems:

Sorry, I thought they were funny.  Here is what I think Chris, BURN this jacket, I don't even know why you are wearing it inside.  But the least you can do is remove the hood.  And maybe seem a little interested in the show...and may I add love the baggy pushed up leather pants.  Might as well throw those in the fire bin with the coat.

3 Points for NBA Fashion: Tailored Suits, Patterned Polos & Bow Ties

On Wednesday night I caught part of Charles Barkley's interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.  Although his outfit was not anything to write home about, something he said made me wonder.  He made a comment about an outfit Kevin Durant wore in one of the post game interviews and how bad it was.  Now Kevin and his teammate on the Oklahoma Thunder, Kevin Westbrook, are known for their crazy fashion antics.  So I decided to take a look at NBA fashion and what I thought of it, starting with Mr. Durant.

All in all, I don't mind it.  Sure there are some wild suit colors, Clark Kent black rimmed glasses and Beats by Dre headphones, but at least he and his buddies are showing some personality.  I am not a fan of capri pants on men or a skinny jeans however.  But can you imagine how hard it is to find pants to fit?  Oh wait...I can.  He has some flair, but will still rock the traditional when needed.

Now Russell Westbrook goes more for shock value. From bright patterned polo's to copying Justin Bieber baggy pants for the Teen Choice Awards.  He too likes the shorter, skinny pants. His colored rimmed glasses, pushed up pants and bright socks really make him stand out. I am sure sitting in post game interviews gets pretty tedious, so why not spice it up a bit...maybe he goes a little far?

And for your pleasure a little more NBA fashion.  I am actually surprised I knew all their names, including my new NBA crush Chandler Parsons.  More tailored suits, fun patterns, glasses and of course bow ties.

Guys in suits, in my opinion, can be hard to mess up. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen.  But when guys make millions of dollars a year and are over 6 feet tall, pretty sure they have suits tailored made.  As for the crazy patterns, skinny and capri pants, well what are you going to do. The crazy patterns can certainly be tamed down with solid pants and/or suit jacket.  And the pants?  BURN them!

My biggest question after scouring over NBA fashion is for Kevin Durant.  What the heck is with the backpacks in the post game interview photos?  I didn't find any pictures of you walking into the arena wearing them, so why after the game?  I am pretty sure you could take it off and set on the ground.  Or don't you rich guys have people to hold those things for you?  And why have it buckled across your chest?  You going hiking later?  Just wondering...

Throwback Thursday: Saved by the Bell

I tried to start a "Throw Back Thursday" post of fashion, couples, etc that I think fondly of from back in the day.   However my follow through was something to be desired.  So I thought I would give it a whirl.  And what better way to start this then with a show near and dear to my heart.  And hopefully soon making its way to Netflix so I can binge watch for the fashion greatness. I am of course talking about Saved by the Bell.

Amazing outfits from Male to Female, left to right.  Pleated parachute pants, colored blazers, white hi-top tennis shoes and pegged jeans.  The hours of fun is limitless.  And remember when you wanted to look just like them?  When we all searched for a Zack Morris of our own in Junior High?

There is no need to try to fix these outfits, why would I?  I can only hope that they don't come back anytime soon. Although thanks to the likes of Kim Kardashian and Nicki Minaj, the bare mid-drift is trying to make a return.  Timeout...what?

BREAKING FASHION NEWS: A Robe can replace your OLD Winter Coats

I swear, I am not doing this on purpose.  But generally when I see a picture that causes me want to comment, I do, if not at least to myself.  So Rihanna, an already blogged about fashion victim this week, is back for Round 2.

I know we have all had nightmares about leaving our house naked.  Okay, I am pretty sure I have not had that particular dream, but you always see it on TV shows or movies.  So work with me here.  But as soon as I saw this picture of her in this coat going to dinner in Los Angeles, I immediately thought of the robe I got for Christmas.  And then wondered...why is she wearing hers out in public?

This is pretty much how I look every morning in my front yard trying to water my plants without my neighbors or random strangers seeing me in it.  And she wore this out in public.

Hmmm, how to save the outfit???

Maybe if she had a longer skirt, pants, a dress...anything that would make me think she had something on underneath.  All I can wonder now is, what's under the coat?  Or is it like High School graduation and she lost a bet and had to flash the whole restaurant? I will give her the benefit of the doubt and say she has a lovely ensemble on underneath, classy and all.

Rihanna, not quite sure how often I have posted about you.  I can think of at least four separate times, which is better than some, worst than others.  But it might be time to go for more drastic moves.  I previously told you to destroy your last dress, the pink loofah.  I think you should start thinking that it might be time to FIRE your fashion consultants.

And in case you are wonder, no, I do not plan to wear my Betsy Johnson pink and white bow robe out in public this weekend. Well at least not without pants underneath it!!!
